An elected Board of Directors oversee the growth of the Order from it’s headquarters in New Haven, Connecticut. Every Province has a State Council which directs the affairs within their local jurisdiction. Councils are found in most communities within the Provinces. In British Columbia we presently have 128 Councils located in all areas of the province. Maple Ridge has had an active council since 1964. the council has been involved in all aspects of parish and community life, rendering services and doing many charitable works.

Thomas Haney

Council 5566
Chartered on May 19th, 1964

Council 5566 has been active and growing since its inception in 1964. In 1979 the name was changed from North Fraser Council to Maple Ridge Council to more accurately describe the principle area of service. In 1993 the Council’s name was again changed in line with a trend to replace location names with a meaningful local patron. The council selected as pa-tron Thomas Haney, an early pioneer who settled in the Maple Ridge area in 1876. Thomas and his family were devout Catholics and very community minded. He provided accommodation and food for the visiting Oblate priests; donated land for the building of a Catholic church, land for a Presbyterian Church, land for a municipal hall, cemetery, etc. His memory was honored in naming the local town Haney. Council 5566 is proud to have Thomas Haney as their council patron!
