A program offered at St. Patrick's Parish to facilitate the discernment of your Charisms

Lord, my God and my loving Father,
You have made me to know you, to love you, to serve you,
and thereby to find and to fulfill myself.

I know that you remain with me in all things, and desire that my path lead me to you.

But of them all, there is one especially by which you want me to come to you.

Since I will do what you want of me,
I pray you, send your Holy Spirit to me:
into my mind, to show me what you want of me;
into my heart, to give me the determination to do it,
and to do it with all my love, with all my mind,
and with all my strength right to the end.

The Holy Spirit, our powerful ally and guide, has bestowed each of us with powerful gifts that are meant to be used for the benefit of others. Your gifts are a great, and with them comes responsibility. Here is a sampling of some, but to truly discern, we invite you to participate in this workshop through our parish. The program costs $70 for the online course and interview; and the parish is additionally subsidizing each participant the balance of the cost of the program.

   Mercy
 Your passion is one of reaching out to those who suffer through practical deeds of compassion that convey God's love and comfort.
 
 
 
 
   Leadership
 Your passion is for changing things for the better through group vision and mission. Those with the charism of Leadership are empowered particularly to advance human dignity, steward Creation, and work toward the realization of God's loving plans for humanity, whatever the specific nature of their vision.
 
 
 
 
   Intercessory Prayer
 Your passion is that God's will be done and God's love and provision reach those in need. Those with this charism don't assume they know what God wants in a particular situation, nor do they require direct contact to be effective. They try to "listen" before praying and often receive specific guidance as to how to pray for a given situation.
 
 
 
 
   Hospitality
 Your passion is to nurture others by making a welcoming place for them. This is a powerful charism of community healing. Hospitality can be exercised toward individuals or groups.
 
 
 
 
   Craftsmanship
 The creation of things of physical beauty to bring joy to others and glory to God lifts your spirit, allowing you to work without tiring. More than being handy or crafty, you are inspired, imaginative, creative, innovative.
 
 
 
 
   Administration
 Your passion is making good things happen for the Kingdom of God. An individual with this charism is called to execute with excellence an already established goal or vision. You organize and mobilize people, resources, and logistical details efficiently and are lifted up by the work.

About the Called & Gifted Program

The Called & Gifted™ Discernment Process (Catherine of Siena Institute) has been used since 1993 by over 100,000 lay, ordained, and religious Catholics and other Christians around the world. It is designed to help Christians discern the presence of charisms in their lives. Charisms, or spiritual gifts, are special abilities given to all Christians by the Holy Spirit to give them power both to represent Christ and to be a channel of God’s goodness for people. Whether extraordinary or ordinary, all charisms ought to be exercised in the service of God (Catechism of the Catholic Church, 2003)…….”

As part of our Parish Mission, which is to ‘call and form missionary disciples’, we are all called to be Christ-like first! Oh the joy of growing in holiness and love and to be one with Him! And then, to discover that intense desire to go out into your part of the world, and to witness to others this joy, this peace….His Love!… in other words… to apostolate!!!

St. Patrick’s offers ‘Called & Gifted’ Workshops to help our parishioners with the following:

To discover God’s personal call in their own lives as laity in this apostolate.
To discover their deepest identity which is to grow in personal holiness
To be affirmed that they do have an active role to play, unique and specific to them, in evangelization in their own specific secular vocation
And to be equipped for this role

We have had over 55 people attend on-line and in-person workshops since introducing this Discernment Process to St. Patrick’s Parish in Oct 2021.

God is calling each of us to a unique purpose in life, a vocation, a work of love that only you can do. This vocation is seeking the Kingdom of God through your unique everyday, seemingly ordinary circumstances: family, school, work, social, civic, etc..

Each of us have received gifts in Baptism and Confirmation through which God intends to not only help us grow in holiness, but to be active in the apostolate where His love reaches others.
