When we asked Gwen why she chose to lead (and take a week off her summer) and what she hopes for the youth of our family, this is what she said:
.
“I chose to apply to the Arise Team because I felt God calling me to reciprocate my wonderful experience as a participant. Two years ago, I attended a retreat by the Archdiocese and had a grace-filled and engaging time, moving me to apply and give fellow youth the opportunity to grow in their faith and friendships, just like I did. I felt called to actively use my gifts for the glory of God, letting Him direct my abilities according to His will”. 🫶🏼

“When I return home, I hope to be enthusiastic about continuing to share the Good News. As a part of the Campus Ministry Team at Archbishop Carney -my high school- I wish that God will strengthen my desire to be an evangelist, and accompany other youth in their Faith journey at school. Also, I hope that my faith will be nurtured by administering to and being with the youth, and that I will continue to be open to His plan for me as I enter ✏️ 📚 Grade Twelve, planning for the future ahead. Amid the uncertainty in my future, I hope I will be able to trust God even more, and allow Him to work in all my endeavours! I want God and serving His children, to be at the centre of my life.”

And now, we will begin to highlight some of our St Patrick’s young adults that are helping out on the leadership level at the Arise Youth retreat. It is no small commitment, it includes intentional planning, lots of Zoom meetings & taking a faith study to help prepare their hearts & minds.

Introducing Monica Tabada! We asked two questions:
1. Why did you say yes to lead?
2. What is your dream for the youth of our parish?

Monica’s response: “Going to “Homecoming” 2022, my equivalent of Arise, was such a pivotal step in my journey with the Lord. Experiencing the beauty of nature, community, fellowship, the sacraments and the testimonies of others brought me to a place where I was able to fully encounter the Lord. I am so thrilled to return and in a small way be a part of what the Holy Spirit will do in the lives of each participant, before, during and after Arise.
.
My dream for the youth of St. Patricks is that every single individual would be actively and joyfully operating in the Spirit, and that they would boldly follow the promptings and desires He sends. I also just want every youth to feel at home at St. Patricks, because it just so happens to be a place God has also made His home”.

Round 4️⃣ of Introductions! Thank you to everyone who have already sponsored our youth to help send them to Arise. We are so grateful for the financial support and of course, generous hearts from those in our community. Our youth are grateful for this opportunity!

Zachary’s response: “I want to attend the Arise Retreat because of the experience I had last year. Arise Camp was my favorite part of summer 2023. I want to go again to meet new friends and to acquire a closer relationship with God. I hope to become a person with strong morals and have leadership skills”.
.
Annie’s submission: “I chose to go to Arise this year because I want to grow in my relationship with Christ and I want to develop friendships with other teens who are serious about their faith. Coming back from this retreat I want to have a deeper understanding of my faith and be equipped to give back to my community through youth ministry”.

We asked each of our youth 2 questions before Arise.
1) Why do you want to go?
2) What are you hoping will be different about yourself when you get back?
.
Eva’s response: “I’m always hearing amazing things about Arise from my faith study girls, and now I’m so excited to experience this retreat myself alongside people my age from the archdiocese. By encountering Jesus and building a stronger & deeper personal relationship with Him through this, while also getting to be with teens just as passionate and faithful, will hopefully be a moving-milestone in my faith-journey; something I can bring back and share with youth at St. Pat’s”.

Francis’ response: “I am looking forward to attending Arise after hearing about how much my sister enjoyed it. I made the decision to go to Arise this year because I want to grow deeper in my faith life and meet with similar minded Catholic youth. When I get back from this retreat I hope to have grown in my faith and forged a stronger relationship with Christ. I am very grateful for the opportunity to attend Arise and I hope to have a very fruitful experience”.

Meet Julia & Tyler!

“My name is Tyler Juhasz. You may know me from Mass at St. Patrick’s where I sometimes serve as an Altar Server.
I hope to go to the Arise Youth Camp because I don’t want to stay at home all summer and I wanted to deepen my relationship with God. When I return I’m hoping that I’ve made some new friends and grown closer to God with a deeper understanding of the faith I practice”.

“I chose to attend Arise this year because I really desired to grow in my faith, bond with my friends, and meet new ones. Also, my sister went in a previous year and enjoyed it a lot which prompted me to become excited to go.
When I come back from Arise, I hope I will become a person more grounded in my faith. I hope to come closer to our Father and know Him a little bit better”.

Introducing Clare Powell & Nikolas Geary! We asked all eight of our youth two questions:
1) Why did you choose to go?
2) What are you hoping will be different about yourself when you get back?

Nik’s answer:
“ I’m very excited to be going to the Arise retreat. I’m looking forward to meeting new people at the retreat, and also dig deeper into my faith and get to know God. I would love to volunteer for youth ministry in my local parish in the future. I’m super pumped about going to this retreat and I’m so glad that I have this opportunity to go”.

Clare’s answer:
At first, I didn’t want to go but after learning about it, I realized that it might be a lot of fun and the outcome will only be beneficial. I am excited to go to this camp to get closer to my new church community and to connect with other youth my age. I am hoping to learn more about myself and to learn how to present myself as a woman of God, not as a woman of the world”.

A huge part of our parish family is gathering together around a table with good food that leads to an even better conversation. Food helps us relax and helps us feel comfortable with each other. Even the early apostles ate a lot together!
.
This is why we serve meals at Alpha and why we make sure to have some sort of food element with other ministries. We try hard to accommodate allergies & sensitivities. It is a labour of love!
.

Congratulations to all of our confirmandi 🔥 🕊️ for receiving the Holy Spirit EVEN MORE on Sunday at Pentecost and this past Tuesday evening.

The Holy Spirit is alive and working! He is present even now- we were born for such a time as this! Please join us in praying for all those who were stirred with the Spirit; let us wrap them in prayer as they journey forward closer to the heart of the Father. That their hearts desire a personal relationship with Jesus. That this not just be a task checked off. That we ALL exude spirits of love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control and righteousness!

May each person know they are beloved, worthy & enough with very specific gifts bestowed on them for a very specific purpose. “And hope does not disappoint us, because Gods love has been poured into our hearts through the Holy Spirit that has been given to us” [Romans 5:5].

Let our greatest identity be that we are loved BY HIM!

Yesterday, more than 80 of our parishioners & friends gathered together to listen to the prophetic voice of Fr John Riccardo from @acts.xxix & beautiful, soulful music from @damascusworship
.
We heard the Gospel, the powerful proclamation, in a new way that I wonder if we have ever heard before.
.
We want to give an extra special thank you to @archvancouver for sponsoring this event. The team there helped in so many ways, and probably more ways that we don’t even know about. We are so grateful to be apart of an archdiocese that cares so deeply about their parishes.
.
And thank you to all of you for coming out, with all the sacrifices made to spend the day in Vancouver. It was a beautiful day of community, discussion, prayer & worship.
